چکیده

Globular cluster systems evolve, in galaxies, due to internal and external dynamics and tidal phenomena. One of the causes of evolution, dynamical friction, is responsible for the orbital decay of massive clusters into the innermost galactic regions. It is found that these clusters are effective source of matter to feed a central galactic black hole such to make it grow and shine as an AGN.

Are Globular Clusters the Remnant Nuclei of Progenitor Disk Galaxies?

The globular cluster system of a typical spheroidal galaxy makes up about 0.25% of the total galaxy mass (McLaughlin 1999). This is roughly the same mass fraction as contained in the nuclear star cluster (or stellar nucleus) present in most nearby low-mass galaxies. Motivated by this “coincidence”, this Letter discusses a scenario in which globular clusters of present-day galaxies are the survi...

The Colors of Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy Globular Cluster Systems , Nuclei and Stellar Halos

We present the results of a Hubble Space Telescope WFPC2 F555W and F814W survey of 69 dwarf elliptical galaxies (dEs) in the Virgo and Fornax Clusters and Leo Group. The V − I colors of the dE globular clusters, nuclei, and underlying field star populations are used to trace the dE star-formation histories. We find that the dE globular cluster candidates are as blue as the metal-poor globular c...

Centauri and G 1 like massive globular clusters the remnant cores of infalling dwarf galaxies ? – Dynamical constraints

We simulate the result of orbital decay for a dwarf satellite galaxy in a disk galaxy potential. The peeling-off of the satellite by the strong tidal field within the disk of the host galaxy quickly reduces the satellite’s mass, and drasticly slows down the decaying of the orbit. The result is generally a cluster on a large halo orbit, like the M54 cluster of the Sagittarius galaxy in the Milky...

Dynamical Friction in dE Globular Cluster Systems

The dynamical friction timescale for globular clusters to sink to the center of a dwarf elliptical galaxy (dE) is significantly less than a Hubble time if the halos have King-model or isothermal profiles and the globular clusters formed with the same radial density profile as the underlying stellar population. We examine the summed radial distribution of the entire globular cluster systems and ...

The contribution of primordial globular clusters to the central galactic activity

Globular clusters in galaxies have a mutual feedback with the environment, which is tuned by their dynamical evolution. This feedback may be the explanation of various features of both the globular cluster system and the host galaxy. Relevant examples of these are the radial distribution of globulars and the violent initial activity of galaxies as AGN.
